Welcome
The following guidelines and policies have been established to ensure a friendly and professional relationship between us. We trust that you will take your music training seriously and that this policy will help us attain our goals. Our goal is to develop each student's full music potential with personalised or group instruction by providing carefully selected and balanced repertoir, progressive technique, music theory, performance opportunities, exam and audition preparation and most importantly, a love of music. We take student progress very seriously and we thrive to spend the time together in a positive, productive and fun way. Please inform us of any concerns you may have throughout the year. Appointments are to be arranged, phone calls and emails answered during our office hours i.e. Monday – Friday, 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM. Our office is closed during school and public holidays.
The Courses
Lessons at spiral school of music consist of individual or group instrumental or voice instruction of 30-, 45- or 60-minute lessons / classes. The school offers a year-round programme. Regular / full-time students of the school sign a yearly contract upon enrolment which reserves them a permanent time slot in the school's timetable. Regular / full-time students do not have lessons during school / public holidays while the fee remains the same. Irregular / part-time (pay-as-you-go) students' contract allows them to have lessons during school holidays. Please see the School Calendar for the precise dates when breaks and public holidays take place.
The Fee
Regular / full-time students with yearly contracts : the lesson fee is based on the number of lessons in one year. There are  minimum 35 school weeks per calendar year. The fee is yearly, divided in 12 equal monthly instalments. Yearly contract can be terminated twice in the calendar year : on 28.02 and 31.08 by giving the school a minimum of one month's notice in written form and signed in ink. Irregular / part-time (pay-as-you-go) students : the lesson fee is based on a single lesson provided the student pays for a minimum of two lessons in a calendar month. Irregular students are required to pay for a minimum of two lessons per calendar month. This contract can be terminated with a minimum of one month's notice in written form and signed in ink. Credit is not given to a student who cannot attend their lesson/s for any reason. Fees are due on the 1st of the month for the month ahead. Tuition payment is accepted in the following two ways : bank transfer or cash. For prolonged absences, lesson fees must be paid in order to hold a time slot. Penalty fee of 5,00 € per student is charged for each reminder sent when fees are not received on time. Teachers visiting the student at the student's desired location for the lessons must be reimbursed for travel expenses (return ticket) as soon as they arrive at the student's location and according to the current local transport rates. No lessons will be scheduled without received payment on time and as specified above.
The Lessons
The lesson time has been reserved for one student only. This means that this time is unavailable to any other student and we have made the commitment to instruct you at this time. Lessons begin and end promptly. Lessons will not be extended for a student who is not ready to begin on time. The teacher must not be asked to start early or be held up after the lesson is over. Do not schedule sports activities, other lessons or any other appointments during your scheduled lesson time. Should a conflict arise, please do not request a make up lesson under any circumstances as our schedule is inflexible. We have a finite number of students and permanent time slots for each one. Taking a lesson time other than the one you are assigned will require payment for this additional time slot in advance. Do not ask us to rearrange a lesson with any other student. The school is not responsible for any lesson switching. Scheduling changes of any kind are completely at our discretion. School hours vary daily. Please call us and leave a message if you have any questions or concerns. During teaching times the teachers do not make or answer telephone calls or emails. Relaying messages to family members during lesson time should be for emergency purposes only. Should an emergency arise, please call and leave a message.
  The Requirements
Assignments, practice and participation in school activities are to have the same priority as homework from school. In order to make the best progress in music, daily practice is required. To help develop self-discipline and good work habits, it is suggested that a regular time for practice is determined and set aside each day. It is the responsibility of the student to read the weekly assignment and to make the effort to meet practice goals. It is the responsibility of the parent/s to ensure that home practice and assignments are carried out free of distraction and interruption. Parental recognition, support and encouragement are vital for continued progress and success. In a case when a student fails to follow our policy, does not practise on a regular basis and thus produces dissatisfying results and does not progress as expected, the student will be put on a probation period of four weeks, after which spiral school of music reserves the right to expel the student should there be no signs of improvement.
The Make Up Policy
There are no make up lessons given. It is not possible for us to give make up lessons due to our schedule. We thank you in advance for your courtesy in not asking us for a make up lesson. Taking a lesson time other than the one you are assigned will require payment for this additional time slot in advance. Please be considerate! The student cannot attend a lesson when ill so as not to carry the disease to the teacher or other students. You will be notified as soon as possible should your teacher need to miss. Should a teacher need to miss a scheduled lesson, we will arrange a substitute teacher or another time to give the lesson that is mutually convenient. You are not being charged for the teacher's illnesses or their vacation time.
The School Concerts
Performance opportunities are held throughout the year. This is a very important part of the musical experience and a vital component in the development of a musician. Getting together with other students and learning to perform in varied circumstances helps a student become confident and mature. We expect regular participation from all students. Performing at our two main concerts (i.e. Winter concert in December and Summer concert / Abschlußkonzert in July) is mandatory for our regular / full-time students. Concert participation counts as one regular lesson. Accepted reasons for not performing at a school concert : illness, death in the family and teacher's decision. In the case that the teacher decides a student is not ready to perform at one of our concerts, regular students are required to attend the concert in the audience.
Student Materials
Students are required to acquire their own materials. Fees required for various student performance events will be invoiced and collected as needed. If you cannot attend the event, the fee is not reimbursed.
The School Studio Environment
The student is a welcome guest in the school studio so we ask that you do not knock or ring the doorbell. Please respect our neighbours and ongoing lessons by not shouting when you are outside. Food and drinks are not allowed in the studio. Enter quietly. Please allow time to take off your shoes and to wash your hands before the instruction begins. We honour your scheduled lesson time by beginning and ending punctually and devoting ourselves wholly to the time we have together. Parents and/or siblings are welcome on a limited basis and at the teacher's discretion. Please respect each other's lesson time. Do not interrupt someone else's lesson for any reason. Parents, if you have a question to ask, please ask at the beginning or during your child's lesson time, not during another student's lesson time or during the teacher's time off. It is extremely important that students are brought to the lesson in a timely fashion. Never drop off your child without acknowledgement from them or the teacher that they are safe. Never assume that the school studio is open all day or will stay open earlier or later than the scheduled lesson. Young students are asked to remain inside until the pick up person is visible. Children should be picked up on time, at the end of their lesson. Please remember that this is not a babysitting service, therefore an after hours fee of 10,00 € per 15 minutes (or part of 15 minutes) will be assessed in the event a child is left at the studio for a longer period of time. The school studio is designed to be a warm and inviting place of instruction.
It is reserved for you and/or your child during your/their scheduled lesson time as a time that is positive and beneficial for both you and them.
  The Use of Student Image
During student and group gatherings and performances the school reserves the right to use video recording and/or to take photographs of students for use in the school data, advertising materials, lesson demonstration and online presence. Photographs taken by the school and/or those shared with the school by parents or students of gatherings and performances become the property of the school and can be used at the discretion of and in regards to the school. The school follows online safety rules in this matter.
No Private Hire
No current, former or trial student of spiral school of music can hire any current, former or to-be teacher or other staff member of the school on a private basis under any circumstance.
In Conclusion
Professional music education and instrumental / voice instruction is our profession, our art and our business. We present and live up to the aforementioned policies, which give us the time and financial security to devote most of our energy to the creative act of sharing music with people.
